Travelling the world on a bicycle

_

Bicycles are like dreams, and I'm pedalling them!

Travelling the World on a Bicycle?
Yeah for sure, there is no other way! After travelling a great part of the world by public transport , I got frustrated. Passing all those beautiful stretches with a speed of 80 km/hour feels a bit stupid. So I looked for a better way to travel and there it was the bicycle!! Since then the cycling-bug got me. This is the way to get as nearest as possible to all facets of the country you're visiting. On my web space -Travelling the world on a bicycle- you'll find the stuff to tell the story.

Enjoy and get inspired!   Blanche

Cycling Belgium and Germany

An
Autumn ride

Falling leaves, an Indian summer, 6 friends (Wouter, Marloes, Rene, Douwe, Jans and Blanche), the sun, steep hills, good food and some beers. In autumn Wouter and I decided to make up a nice trip for six crossing borders of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Join us in the movie or ride the same. As the weather was cold in the evening, we stayed in Youthhostels and Prum, a rented Caravan in Arimont and a very nice and super cheap B&B in Monschau. Here you'll find the route , the places where we slept and the movie made by Wouter.

Cycling Cuba

Salsa en la Calle

This summer we combined sun, salsa, lost of other good live music, mojito's, snorkelling and cycling in an amazing and difficult to understand country. We cycled 33 days through the west and the east off Cuba. I visited almost 25 % of the world but saw never a stranger country then Cuba; but it was wonderful. Early rides are recommended as the heat is hot. Also a device for water purification is very very handy. Make sure you'll take also some national pesos along as food is hard to find during the rides and sometimes the only way to get it is to pay in national pesos. We needed around 20 euro's for one month in national pesos. This will buy you lots of cookies and sometimes if you're lucky fruit. Have fun with your preparations using my film and other information!

Cycling Cuba, the route

Route East Cuba

Mantanzas -Valle de Yumuri - (bus to Holguin) - Gibara - Banes - Mayari -
taxie to Moa (no sleeping places, the hotel is completely rented out to a factory !) - Baracoa - Imias - Guantanamo- Santiago de Cuba - Chivrico - La Mula - Marea del Portillo -
Niquero (the hotel there is brilliant as you get live music every day from the terrific organ) - playa colorades (daytrip) - Manzanillo - Bayamo - Las Tunas

In all places mentioned on this route you can find places to sleep. Some are special and mentioned, one is horrible and also mentioned. We cycled all together some 1450 km.

Route West Cuba

(bus Las Tunas to Havana) - playa Baracoa - Las Terazas - San diego los Banos –
Vinalles (absolute the best casa is El Balcon at the Rafael Trejo No.48 on the second stock) - Pinar (daytrip for our visa) -
Cayo Yutias via Pons (sleeping is possibel in a casa in nearby La Palma. Never ever go sleeping on Cayo Yutias with only a mosquito net to protect you. There are millions of very little horrible insects which will go trough the net and pester you, as we found out a whole evening long) -
Bahia Honda ( !!!! dont't ever go to casa Vivi Pandiello as the staff will rip you and is very rude. Go to the hotel instead or to one of the nearby campismo's (2) or casa along the beach towards province Pinar del Rio) - Playa Baracoa or El freijle nearby playa jibacoa  - Mantanzas www.rentvillalilacuba.com

In all places mentioned on this route you can find places to sleep. Some are special and mentioned, one is horrible and also mentioned. We cycled all togheter  some 1450 km.

In June I cycled with 19 other members of my club de Wereldfietser in Great Britain. Three weeks after this Trip I organised a afterparty in the Netherlands. We went with a group of 14 people to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug where we stayed at a camping and cycled for two days. This cycleroute in the middle of the Netherlands has road signs. The total route stretches over a 200 km and incorporates places like Rhenen, Driebergen-Zeist, Hollandse Rading, Hilversum-Noord, Naarden-Bussum, Amersfoort and Maarn. The route is divided into 8 stretches. We cycled 6 of them.

Wonderful Morocco!!

I started my cycling holidays in Morocco in the winter of 2003. A country I just love and keep on visiting, year after year. After travelling a great part of the world by public transport and to Morocco three times (2x by bus and 1 x by hired car), I got frustrated. Passing all those beautiful stretches with a speed of 80 km/hour feels a bit stupid. So I looked for a better way to travel and there it was....the bicycle!! Since then the cycling-bug got me and I visited more countries on a bicycle. On my web space -Traveling the world on a bicycle- you'll find the Moroccan routes and the pictures to tell the story. Enjoy!

Into the desert and getting higher in the Anti Atlas - Moocco 2006

We had a very nice but heavy route planned for winter 2006. We were fully prepared; fith and with excellent gear we went to Morocco. But already on the first day it appeared that I brought belly fever with me from home. After two days of resting, three days cycling to Tafaroute and another two days resting, we choose a easier option because there was no strength anymore. We cycled down the atlas to Sidi Ifni in short bits in three days and had a lazy five day stay in one of our favourites; Sidi Ifni on the beach.  Despite the stomach flue and the planned route which went down the drain, we enjoyed our stay in Marocco and a meeting with our Moroccan friends anyway. Next time we will cycled the route planned, N sh'Allah!

The plan >> Agadir (Flight) - Ait Baha (509) - Souk-el-Had-de-Targa-n-Tchouka (7051/ 7108) - Tafraoute - Ighrem (7074/ 7038) - Souk-Tleta-de-Tagmoute (7086) - Tata - Akka (7084) - Icht - Assa (7084) - Fask (772) - Plage Blanche - Sidi Ifni - Ait Meloul (Taxi)

Acctual route >>Agadir (Flight) - Ait Baha (509) - Souk-el-Had-de-Targa-n-Tchouka (7051/ 7108) - Tafraoute - Col the Cerdous - glou plage - Sidi Ifni - Agadir by taxi - Düsseldorf
