I never went on higher grounds as I did in the Alps in Swiss an Italie. Glimlach

In June I cycled almost 10.000 meters into the height with 17 other club members from the Wereldfietser, the world cyclist the heigh alps of Swiss and Italy.
The highest point, the Stelvio at 2737 meter.

Twente op zijn kop!

 

Twenti-2 fietsweekend 11-13 april 2008

In the weekend of 12th april 18 people cycled the eastern part of The Netherlands and a bit of Germany.
When Wouter and I send the information about this trip three weeks before  to all the participants it was snowing (!!)
But hey....the weathergods were very kind to us at the actual weekend....we cycled in full sun in to SPRING! Glimlach

Via Romana, from Nijmegen to Xanten

 

 

In september 2007 I cycled with 17 other members of my club de Wereldfietser the Via Romana in three days organised by Marianne, Wouter and me. A cycle route from Nijmegen in the Netherlands to Xanten in Germany and back again. The route can cover three days cycling and has a lenght of 254 km and has roadsigns.
 
  1. Groesbeek - Kranenburg - Berg en Dal - Nijmegen - Linden - Cuijk - Groesbeek ( 96 km ), Camping Klein Amerika in Groesbeek

An autumn biketrip along the rivers Maas and Rijn

 
 
End of October I cycled two days with a few fellow cyclists of my club De Wereldfietser organised by Jim. It was trip in the middle of the Netherlands and concentrated around the rivers the Maas and the Rijn.

Nazomerweekend Wereldfietser

 
 
In the weekend of 31 of august till 2 september 2007 I joined as much as 95 other cyclists to celebrate the finish of a long nice summer. My club, de Wereldfietser organises this every year at the Veluwe in the Netherlands. On the program: nice people, campfire, camping, lovely food, lots of wine and of course cycling.

Utrechtse Heuvelrug

 
  
In June I cycled with 19 other members of my club de Wereldfietser in Great Britain. Three weeks after this Trip I organised a afterparty in the Netherlands. We went with a group of 14 people to the Utrechtse Heuvelrug where we stayed at a camping and cycled for two days. This cycleroute in the middle of the Netherlands has road signs. The total route stretches over a 200 km and incorporates places like Rhenen, Driebergen-Zeist, Hollandse Rading, Hilversum-Noord, Naarden-Bussum, Amersfoort and Maarn. The route is divided into 8 stretches. We cycled 6 of them.

Wonderful Morocco!!

 

I started my cycling holidays in Morocco in the winter of 2003. A country I just love and keep on visiting, year after year. After travelling a great part of the world by public transport and to Morocco three times (2x by bus and 1 x by hired car), I got frustrated. Passing all those beautiful stretches with a speed of 80 km/hour feels a bit stupid. So I looked for a better way to travel and there it was....the bicycle!! Since then the cycling-bug got me and I visited more countries on a bicycle. On my web space -Traveling the world on a bicycle- you'll find the Moroccan routes and the pictures to tell the story. Climbing the Tizi n Test, down again into the desert and dipping in the see - Morocco 2007

 
 
In the winter of 2007-2008 I cycled my favourit -Morocco- again!!  This time with Wouter and Roel joined my husband and me. So we four were  off to the high Atlas mountains.

Into the desert and getting higher in the Anti Atlas - Moocco 2006

 
We had a very nice but heavy route planned for winter 2006. We were fully prepared; fith and with excellent gear we went to Morocco.But already on the first day it appeared that I brought belly fever with me from home. After two days of resting, three days cycling to Tafaroute and another two days resting, we choose a easier option because there was no strength anymore. We cycled down the atlas to Sidi Ifni in short bits in three days and had a lazy five day stay in one of our favourites; Sidi Ifni on the beach.  Despite the stomach flue and the planned route which went down the drain, we enjoyed our stay in Marocco and a meeting with our Moroccan friends anyway. Next time we will cycled the route planned, N sh'Allah!

Uitnodiging Via Romana; van Nijmegen (NL) naar Xanten (DL)

     Party with the Romans!    

Binnenkort is het dan eindelijk zover!  De Engelandgroep gaat voor de tweede keer met elkaar fietsen op een afterparty. Ook dit keer sluiten er ook andere Wereldfietsers aan. Drie dagen lang fietsen op de Via Romana van 27 t/m 30 september. So let's party with the Romans! Deze historische grens-overschrijdende bewegwijzerde fietsroute loopt van Nijmegen naar Xanten en is in totaal zo'n 254 km lang.  We hebben rekening gehouden met de dalende avondtemperatuur, op alle slaapplekken kunnen we overdekt en dus warm binnenzitten. In dit bericht vind je een deelnemerlijst, nieuws over een wijnfeest ter plaatse, bezienswaardigheden én alle andere gegevens die je nodig hebt voor de tocht.

Wij hebben er erg zin in! Tot snel allemaal!

Van dag tot dag .....


Donderdag 27 september
Donderdagavond  ben je welkom op camping Klein Amerika in Groesbeek. We verblijven twee dagen op deze camping zodat de ' vrijdagavond-aansluiters' ook in de gelegenheid zijn om mee te fietsen met het Via Romana weekend. De camping ligt op zo'n 11 km van het centraal station Nijmegen. De camping heeft een overdekte ruimte  waar we kunnen zitten én een winkel.
 
  • Slapen                     :   Camping Klein Amerika 3 in Groesbeek.
  • Kosten                     :   Tent € 3,50/  persoon € 3,30 /  auto € 1,50. Te betalen aan de eigenaar van de Camping.
  • Met de auto              :   Routebeschrijving
  • Met de trein              :   De camping ligt op zo'n 11 km van Nijmegen CS. De kortse route naar de camping kan je
                                          zelf plannen met     de routekaartjes oder het kopje Wegwijzers in deze mail.     
      

        

Vrijdag  28 september 
Vandaag fietsen we lekker licht, een rondje zonder bagage met veel afwisseling van stad, polder, bos en heide. Via de Mookerheide en de romeinse villa Plasmolen komen we in een mooi half open gebied. Via wat kronkels bereiken we Nijmegen, daarna vervolgen we de weg door de mooie Ooijpolder om 's avonds weer in Groesbeek uit te komen.
Hier 
wachten de ' vrijdagavond-aansluiters'  waaronder onze romeinen-deskundige Willem Jongeman én een andere romeinse wijngod, Bacchus op ons. In het weekend van 28, 29 en 30 september vinden namelijk de Nederlandse wijnfeesten plaats in Groesbeek. Komt dat even goed uit ;> !
  • Route                      : Groesbeek - Kranenburg - Berg en Dal - Nijmegen - Linden - Cuijk - Groesbeek ( 96 km )
  • Slapen                     : Camping Klein Amerika 3 in Groesbeek. Meer info zie beschrijving donderdag.

Zaterdag 29 september    
Op zaterdag breken we ons kampement op om met volle fietstassen naar Xanten in Duitsland te trekken. (als dat nog lukt na een nachtje wijnfeesten :). We rijden door de uiterwaarden van de Rijn met o.a. mooie rivierduinen en passeren Kernwasser Wunderland. We eindigen in het 2000 jr oude Xanten met een mooie Dom in het stadje en een romeins amphitheater in het archeologische park.  S'avonds zijn we 'herzlich willkommen' op camping  Bremer met bijbehorende gemütliche Gaststätte van Herr Willi Bremer in  Ursel (Xanten). 
 
  • Route                 : Groesbeek - Kranenburg - Qualburg - Hasselt - Till - Wissel - Kalkar - Niedermorten - Vynen -
                                  (Ursel) Xanten ( 92 km)   
  • Slapen                : Camping Bremer, , Urseler Straße 10,  (Ursel)  Xanten. Aan de overkant van de camping ligt 
                                de gemütliche Gaststätte Bremer. Een ontbijtje reserveren kan op eigen gelegenheid via Frau 
                                Petreit te bereiken op nummer     02801/4730 in Duitsland. 
  • Kosten                : Tent € 2,00   /  persoon  € 2,00. Te betalen aan de eigenaar van de Camping.
 
Zondag 30 september   
Op de laatste fietsdag rijden we via de bedevaartsplaats Mariembaum langs slot Moyland. We komen door de historische stadjes Kalkar, Kleven en Kranenburg. Het is een dag met veel heuvels, dus dat wordt weer klimmen. De tocht eindigd voor de automobilisten in Groesbeek, de treinreizigers fietsen nog zo'n 11 km door naar het centraal station in Nijmegen.  
                                                                    
  • Route                      : Xanten - Marienbaum - Kalkar - Bedburg - Kleve - Kranenburg - Groesbeek ( 64 km) 
 
Wegwijzers
 
De basis van de Via Romana is de eeuwenoude Limesstraat van de Romeinen, die als leger- en ook handelsroute Romeinse nederzettingen en forten met elkaar verbond. De route loopt van Ulpia Noviomagus Batavorum (het huidige Nijmegen) naar Colonia Ulpia Traiana (vlakbij Xanten).
 
Beide steden kregen rond 100 n. C. stadsrechten Nijmegen en Xanten waren in het begin van onze jaartelling de belangrijkste plaatsen langs de Romeinse grens in dit deel van Europa. De grens van het voormalige romeinse rijk liep in Nederland van Katwijk naar de Duitse grens bij Nijmegen en van daar via Duitsland en Oostenrijk naar Oost-Europa, Azië en Afrika. Op de route vind je daarom ook een groot aantal overblijfselen en verwijzingen naar het Romeinse verleden
  •  De routekaartjes van de Via Romana om te printen en mee te nemen naar de Afterparty!
  • Esterbauer brengt een fietsrouteboekje uit met een volledig beschreven Via Romana met achtergrondinfo (7,50).
